the Curious Case of Official reviews

Well, they are there for a reason.  Since flow of game play has taken a precedence in recent time, Still, there are reasons for official time outs and official reviews, and those should last as long as they need to so we as officials can get the call right.

Wagon Wheel, again

Last night I trekked up to wagon wheel again for a fun scrimmage.  As I have mentioned before I really enjoy being here when I'm not dying.  This was a bout between the Reckin Rebels and the Castle Rock players, but nothing formal.  I love these sorts of scrimmages since everyone has fun and it's a good learning opportunity for new refs as well.

Happy birthday, Dacya

She's ten today!  There's not much else to add, but I am thankful as always she is in my life.  She purrs almost as soon as I pet her and we've been through so much together.  She always lets me know what is going on during her day, even if I don't quite grasp what she's saying a lot.  I love my talky girl!

Bandettes vs Beach city

This was a fun bout but I'm glad I wasn't a head ref for it.  This was an early bout, starting at 10:30 on Sunday morning.  I drove over with Keythong and we stopped by for a bagel to have for breakfast.  Most of the ref crew was there already and it was nice to see some old friends.  There sure are a lot of new faces at SDRD as well, but I did see many people I knew and got to say hi to them.  This actually took up a great deal of my pre-bout time, after the officials meeting of course.

Junior's bout

Since my earlier reffing gig got rained out, I wandered over to Skateworld.  I was bummed I couldn't see my friends from North County, but I needed to get out and about, even if it was raining.  It was still nice and warm out, rain and everything, so that was a pleasant surprise.  I did know there was a junior's bout that was happening at 5:30 and I thought I'd at least take that in.  Juniors are always fun to watch, and this was the younger group, I think they called them the MInors, which is a nice touch to what is now called "old school" roller derby.

My two derby families

This sport lets you make friends everywhere and I am fortunate to have to leagues that make up a lot of my good friends.  This past Friday I was in San Diego I got together with my derby kid and my derby twin and several other friends (Keythong was here, but left early as he had Derby Dolls tournament to ref in the morning so alas he is not pictured with the group).  We had a fine Italian meal at my favorite eatery.  I even shared my breadsticks!

clean your gear... or else!

Remember this post here?  Well, unfortunately it's gotten to the point that it can be a penalty if you have gear that reeks enough that it impedes gameplay.  I learned about it through "Roller Derby Rule of the Day" on Facebook, which is  a great group to be part of- everything gets gone over here, very well, by a refs who know what they are talking about.  I'd suggest liking that page, player or official.

Love your derby family

This is something I never thought I would have to write and am mostly at a loss for words with it, so I'll let SDRD say it for me:
