Her She Bad profile

Real Name:
Brittany Crocco

What is the origin of your derby name and number?
I started out with Hidden City Derby Girls (HCDG) in southern California and wanted to pay tribute to my east coast roots, so it's a nod toward where I grew up, a town near Hershey, PA, where the area code is 717. I was initially going to pick something Philly-related as I'd met my husband when we were in college in Philadelphia, but interestingly enough, a skater who started at the same time as me with HCDG went with Philly MeCrackin, #215 (a Philly area code), as she'd actually grown up there. So that was what encouraged me to go with something from earlier in my life, hence Her She Bad (as in, "Her? She [is] bad." Her She for short.).

Ref Goals 2014

So BCB's Head Ref Conner gave us homework this week, due by the first of January.  It really made me think about what I wanted to do this year regarding reffing and it was not as easy as this might look, especially the ones for the entire year.  Some of skating goals were pretty easy, and predictable for the most part.  Especially the skating backwards and stopping stuff.

So without further ado here they are:

KGB Profile the second

KGB did the first player profile on this blog, and over a year later I thought it might be fun to see how her experiences have been and what has changed.  Check out her FB page and like it, OK?

Real Name:
Karina Eldridge

What is the origin of your derby name and number?

I have always had a strong interest in Russian history. The KGB was the most bad ass secret agents of the USSR, and I couldn't think of a more fitting name for my self. It also became an acronym for "Karina gone bad".

last two scrimmages

I've been on a longer derby sabbatical than I thought I would be, only really attending a few scrimmages weekly and a couple ref practices (with one of those being off skates to take the WFTDA certification test) and the one bout a few weeks ago.  It's been OK overall, since I've realized how much I miss skating now and roller derby as well.   I'm getting to know the players and the refs as well, which is a great thing as they are a pretty cool group of people.

Surprise!

It had to happen.  I have found an editor for my book, which I thought I would need but had no idea how to find.  Or if I did, how I would afford one.  I know I write pretty well, but for a book like this I knew I wanted someone who actually knew what they were doing to help me before I published it.  I've written some other things and one of them was greatly improved by being edited properly.  I don't really want the book to be too polished, but I also want it to be readable and not have grammatical errors that would detract from the overall greatness of it.
