a new start

I just got off the phone to the head ref for The Bomb Squad, the ref group for the Boulder County Bombers.  Check out that picture of how many refs they have already.  We had a great chat about all sorts of derby related stuff, WFTDA, USARS, pivot lines and the like- things all refs seem to talk about when they speak with each other.  I'm pretty excited to be checking out their practices in a week (they are off for Hallowe'en, more or less).  Yes, they practice ALL week.  Every day.  Even the refs have a practice every other Friday night, for positions and endurance.

derby break

I can't believe that I have no pictures of me on this blog without a ref shirt on.  What's up with that?  It's probably because I look like a dope in most of the non-ref pictures, especially any of me doing any kind of drills with the girls.  For some reason derby girls really like to hit refs if we are doing blocking drills with them.  I'm not sure I understand why.

Insert emotional title here

It's true, it's damn true.  After nearly four years tonight was my last practice at Skateworld and with SDRD, for the time being.  I am someone who never says never, so I'm not going to say I'll never skate there again.  I'm going to back to Colorado for a while, which will be good for all parties concerned.

Penalty Cards

I had a thought the other day when I saw a picture of a skater in the box with a sign that said "bad".  It might be even more entertaining to have a variety of signs for the penalty box for the skaters to have while they serve their well deserved time.

WFTDA 2014 Beta Testing new rules

Just saw that there are beta tests of new rules from the WFTDA.  Last year I wasn't sure about the way the new rules were going to be enacted, or the impact they would have on the game.  For the most part I was wrong, and very happy about how it's turned out.

This year I like what they have proposed, so I hope that it works just as well.

I so hate him

So there hasn't been an update on the book recently, since I've been doing other derby related stuff.  Don't worry, I'm still working on it and it's now over 24,000 words and almost 60 pages.  All without the photos that I have been assiduously assembling for inclusion into this most education tome.

I've got two people writing me forwards/prefaces/whatever you want to call them.  I received the first one today, from a certain Keythong.

SoCal vs NAZRD scrimmage bout

Sunday morning at 8 AM SoCal hosted the Whiskey Rollers in an hour long scrimmage/bout sort of deal.  Rowdy and I were the refs, along with STO-Nasty who got there about half time.

Since Rowdy is still hobbled, he pack reffed and I jam reffed, following lead for the first half then I think I was the Whiskey Roller's jam ref the second half.  I forget, it was really early for me, especially after doing the double header the night before.
