Appreciation: Sweet Pain

Cricket was one of my first friends at SDRD, and I've always been thankful for that.  She's a true warrior.

Appreciation: Roswell Crash

I met Roz at the first or second Nollercon.  It's been about five years ago now, and I don't remember   She was a skater at the time, and a darn good one.

Appreciation: Buns of Fury 99

Pam was my roommate and a fellow ref and one of the best people I know.  I remember when she first showed up at SDRD, not long after I did, but immediately was a force to be reckoned with on the track.  She is no-nonsense and will let someone know exactly how she feels about playing (and occasionally the reffing).  My first away bout, when I was a penalty box timer, was at OC and it was her first bout as a Rockette, SDRD's B Team.  Buns is a double threat, as she is a great blocker and also an amazing jammer.  I'm hoping she is also still reffing occasionally, since she was getting quite good at that the last time I reffed with her.

Appreciation: Ice Pax 32

Tracy (as I never learned to call her by her derby name) has always been my derby hero. She was at SDRD when I started, and I miss her lots.

Appreciation: Sugar Britches

She's been my derby sister since the day I met her.  I guess that's really the night I met her, as she bought me my first shot of Jameson during an after party.  That was as auspicious as a greeting as I'd ever been involved in, I'll tell you what!  I would never have imagined where that would lead, but I'm ever so glad it happened!

Down and Derby (2010)

I got this book as a gift in late 2010, after my first full year of officiating.  It was all so new to me then, and I read the book right away.  It didn't hurt that it was given to me by Wonder Whoop'em, who was my first ever derby crush.  It was a thoughtful present, I'll tell you what.

Apparently I only read it once, as now reading it again I see I should have been more thorough.  I got a new copy as I had lent mine out and it will probably never been seen (by me) again.  And that's OK, I hope it's in good hands and makes that person smile every once in a while.

the question is...

When does one know when to call it quits for reffing?  I've done this now for seven full years, which is more than most anything else I've done in my life.  I don't think I'm ready to quit, but I find myself at a bit of a loss these days regarding my derby career.
